Time - July 2007
Time…
Welcome to the July newsletter, it should be a nice, happy, sunny, summer edition, but with the weather we are having at the moment, it just didn’t seem right!
So, I’m going to talk about a dark subject this month…time.
Why is that so dark? Well, let me ask you a question, What does time mean to you?
As you know I like to ask diffcult questions and this is, without doubt, one of the most diffcult. To illustrate what I’m getting at here, let me hark back to the early 1970s.
I’m not sure if you were around then, but in case you weren’t, early 1973 saw one of the musical landmarks on the 1970s. Pink Floyd released the album “Dark Side of the Moon”. It was an amazing album for sure; I certainly liked it – still do in fact! Many other people felt the same as it stayed in the album charts for about six years. I think it was
number 1 for over 60 weeks – that’s a long time!
Anyway, back to the point. The album contained a song called “Time”.
And…it has probably some of the most poignant lyrics concerning this issue.
I’m not sure if I’m really allowed to do this, so my thanks in advance to Roger Waters, Nick Mason, Richard Wright and of course Dave Gilmour who comprised Pink Floyd at the time.
Here are the lyrics…
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you fnd, ten years have gone behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it’s sinking
And racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way but you’re older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Every year is getting shorter; never seem to fnd the time
Plans that either come to nought, or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I’d something more to say…
Powerful stuff or what? So perceptive for people so young at the time, but…it says it all doesn’t it?
In case you missed the point, let me spell it out for you.
Time is the most precious commodity you have. Use it wisely! Don’t do what I did and wait until you are in your mid forties to make a go of it.
Do it now. The rewards for the effort spent are worth it. And, with technology today, it really is easier than ever to build a big business that can give you everything you want.
The investment in TIME you make to start your own business, to learn what you need to learn, pay you back with an abundance of future time that you can use for positive means.
But… if you waste your time now, you will look back and regret it – forever.
This is because you don’t ever get any time back. So invest with your time NOW so that you can gain the time you need in future.
This is not, I repeat, NOT a trial run. You only get one go at this thing called life. What are you doing with your precious seconds now? Are you slumped in front of Eastenders or Big Brother? (Sorry, but what a waste of life force).
Are you boozing it away down the pub? Are you “ticking away the
moments that make up a dull day”?
Well DON’T!
Use your time to invest in your future, NOW.
Please, do not be the case that reads this newsletter again in fve, ten years time and thinks “Ouch, that’s me”!
Actually, you will say something a whole lot stronger than that, I can assure you – I speak from experience here.
You have been warned!
It was Independence Day in the US last week, 4th July. Have you got your own independence day planned?
Are your efforts propelling you towards your own freedom from the Boss, from the Bills, from a life of servitude (which is what a job is, after all)?
What does fnancial independence mean for you?
Your business is the means by which you achieve that independence. Every day you work for someone else, you trade time for money and you will never gain independence in that way.
Fact!
So, use your time wisely. Learn what you need to learn and implement it. Stay committed, get fred up and move on to build the life that you truly desire, but…remember.
You only have the benefit of each second just once. Once it’s passed that’s exactly what it is – the past (ooo, that was a clever play on words wasn’t it?)
But seriously, heed this warning and get out there and do something for your future – NOW.
Managing time is a key element in being able to achieve your goals. I am about to go and spend some time on holiday (again)! This is a superb use of my time as far as I’m concerned and I can do it because I invested in my
business and future.
When I get back I will be launching a new amazingly powerful time management tool that will be able to help you leverage your time. It will enable you to manage every facet of your busy life with total control!
It will enable you to build huge projects with a scope you never believed possible before. It is a very, very powerful tool for controlling time on your terms.
The fnishing touches are just being made now; it will be ready for release in mid August.
Think about what I’ve said today. It may make you feel a little uneasy, but that’s good- if it makes you take action and get moving towards your goals!
Every time you hear the word “time”, remember this newsletter and what I
have said.
Now – go for it!
Next month I’ll be writing to you from Vancouver! Live life, enjoy the journey!
As always…to *YOUR* success!]
Cheers now…and have fun!
Derek
